EPICA by tigaer EPICA by tigaer
`tigaer-design.com proudly presents: EPICA

Description

Alright. Here we are. This was the largest project for quite a while now. A lot of experimenting went into this monster. Trial and error... as usual. The scene shows quite an epic futuristic cityscape and this time actually no big story behind it. Just the imagination of mine that always wants to see such big and amazing vistas. 'City of lights', an earlier project of mine, was a first try at such scenes. The light scheme is almost the same too. Just love this lighting setup.

Technical

I started this project in c4d and vue, used some basic models, for futuristic looking buildings and modified them. Then i moved the objects into vue and arranged the scene. Quite some work went into the setup there, where to place what, and so on. Also, a very important thing, was the lighting of the scene. As usual i did go for the drama... a backlit situation with some cool contrast going on. I don't even know anymore how long it took too render. Something like 15hrs to render the base picture. Rendered several times until i got it right. In photoshop i added the lights, windows and atmosphere. And i tell you people... i'm done with lights and windows for now. You can be assured that 85% of the lights in there... are placed and revised by hand. A lot of precision work went into that stage. Also altered the buildings with details to make them look not too uniform. Long story short a lot of work went into this. Basically worked on it since february. With longer breaks though.

Intuos3 - Photoshop - VUE - 5500px wide

Nice, but I think the bridge thing from building to building is getting old and it looks ugly most of the time.

Beautiful. The birds and sunshine are a nice touch. Usually futuristic cityscapes like this are depressingly devoid of life.

I get it, sunset, pretty, vivid colors, sounds like a pretty decent environment painting theme, but you have to follow some perspective, or even just basic lines.
The fact that the sun beams don't match with where the sun is, the fact that the birds right front o the red building and the sun aren't redish as well ( the redness isn't something the reflects off the buildings, but rather something that your eye or the camera picks up right from the sun itself ) really bother my eye.
Sure, decent composition, impressive use of light, but these little details shouldn't bring down a good piece this much.

Gorgeous!!! And wow, there's still place for birds to live in such a huge city? :O_o: Moreover, they don't look like pigeons but like gooses... hard to tell from this distance :D
What I'm trying to say is that I like the contrast between the urban scenery and the birds :)
