This one is a sister-project to my 'The Undiscovered Country' picture: [link] and tries to show a little more of the world we discovered in the previous work.

The foundation was created with Vue and then post worked in Photoshop. The exotic hook-like mountain formation was done with z-brush. A lot of extra textures, touch ups and atmosphere additions went into the post process. It originally was done last summer for the E-On Environment Challenge. They should consider holding that contest in the winter months. My machine was stable but a 40hrs render within the hottest weeks of the year is simply a pain.

I decided to try myself on another camera mapping animation for this one. Again quite some time went into that endeavour too. More specific info regarding the picture and project in general, as well as the animation, can be found here: [link]

the exotic rock formation looks awesome O_O
Do you need a UV Map for vue to put on the rock material or you just load in the formations and put the material in vue on it?

sorry for the late reply. normally i just slam a basic texture onto the objects. i'm not the super expert when it comes to modeling/texturing. a usual rock texture gives me enough orientation for the photoshop work i usually add to my pics. =)
