This one is probably two years old. I did this one for a colleague of mine who worked on a scifi project at the time. They needed a vista for a specific scene and i tried myself on it. Unfortunately the project got canceled. I left this piece and took parts of it to create my ‘Red Dawn‘ project. I’m sure you recognize the mountains.

I didn't rework it and only tweaked the colors a bit. Just for fun submission this time. :)

This reminds me heavily of the Environment art done by Bungie for Halo Reach. The slanted mountain peaks especially so.

Amazing work with the detail. Almost like a real photo.

Do you think of what is possible from a geological sense when you draw mountains or do you just draw something that looks nice?

good question here. hm... i guess it's a mix of both. on the one hand my work seems always based on what we know from earth. on the other hand you can never say what the conditions and general geological history other planets are. so when you create other worlds you always have some nice creative freedom. :)
