The Shield by tigaer The Shield by tigaer
`tigaer-design.com proudly presents: THE SHIELD

This one was an idea i had in my head for the last few weeks. I took it to refine my skills using vue and photoshop to create some cool concept arty like stuff. Much like the ‘chase III’ piece, which i finished a few days before this one, i wanted to show a pretty desolate place. Trying to use old techniques in new ways.

The sci-fi background story ‘could’ be something like mining corporations that try to drill for very rare materials on extremely dangerous planets. Due to the atmospheric conditions on that planet some very rare materials could evolve there. Of course there are companies that would risk everything to get those. To work on mines like the ’shield mines’ is definitely not comfortable. The atmosphere outside consists of floating fires that could burn a man within seconds. It’s as dangerous as it is beautiful. Only special equipment makes it possible to go outside. Of course no one really ‘wants’ to go outside. In the end you can only hope for a cool breeze. =)

Original Specs:

3600px wide - 15 hrs - apophysis - vue - photoshop

Awesome concept. Most simple but thrilling. Nailed what you intended.

Some artists are so good their images infuse with reality. You are no exception and your picture has a certain beauty to it although beauty may not have been the intended effect.

I run the art show at CONduit, an annual science fiction and fantasy convention in Salt Lake City, Utah (in the United States). [link]

I've had people requesting science fiction artwork as we have a whole bunch of fantasy artwork already, so I've been keeping my eye out for it. :)

=mistressofspam and *MisticUnicorn both attend it regularly, and *kyrn, ~lehn, ~rillystar, and `Saimain have all shown there (Saimain almost sold out last year!).

after looking on your site i don't think i can afford it to send prints to your event. the event itself seems to be very interesting though.

Hmm...you should get an agent in the USA that can send pics to shows for you. You'd likely do quite well, based on what I've seen sell at the various art shows I've been to (including Worldcon).

agents want to get paid too... so... not a too lucky situation. that's the bad thing. digital art isn't really a celebrated matter here in europe. at least not where i live. and if there is digital art that becooomes celebrated here then it leaves a very big question mark hovering above my head. because it's 'art' - and 'art' normally is a thing 'usual' people don't understand at all. :) what i do is no art since normal people can kind of relate to it. oh man... don't get me started on art. lol =) thank you for your nice words. i appreciate them. :) if you ever start an event in europe... let me know. :) to send stuff over the big pond is just too risky and faaaar too expensive.

You'll just have to find a friend in the States who's willing to help you out of the goodness of their heart (or for a free print every now and then).

Sweet, very dramatic colours and lighting, and I like the background story behind it too, reminds me a bit of "The Chronicles of Riddick" movie :D

Pushing yourself is the way to go - you'll end up doing things amazing... like this :)

I would use this as my wallpaper since it's wide-screen, but sadly it's not big enough :(

 Keep up the good work!

Looks like a blend of the prisonplanet in Chronicles of Riddick and the lava-world in one of Deathgate-saga books by Raymond. E. Feist.

Watched you for a long time, but yeah, this one catched my eye ;)
